raffaele, the living doll
With Raffaele it is hard to deal with correctly, if this is even possible at all. He is a very bipolar character, meaning he can switch moods from humorous to murderous from one second to the other, which also depends very much on how someone treats him or what someone thinks about him. If someone has a certain view on him, he almost never tries to change this and often just acts out what they think about him. They think he is a moster? He is now their worst nightmare. They like him for the jokes and stories he tells? His company can actually be enjoyed. They think of him as a respectable creature? He will certainly return the respect. Because of this behaviour, it is actually very difficult to say how Raffaele really is. Towards strangers he is not shy or anything at all, he actually dislikes being completely alone and it appears that he sometimes actually seems to enjoy telling jokes. Most of the time, though, Raffaele is in a rather dark mood. His jokes are not funny but more dark and inappropriate. For some reason he really seems to enjoy laughing about other's misery or giving others the fright of their life, which often makes him seem creepy and someone without feelings like sympathy or compassion. Dealing with him is indeed not easy because you never know if he just gives you a scary grin or is about to rip your throat.
Additional Information
1512 AC, Venice, Italia. A young boy, mere 8 years old, named Ernesto, had wished for a pet for a long time. He wanted a Viscet - exotic animals, newely discovered, 8ft heigh and truly impressive creatures, but as reports told, with a loyal heart of gold. But his family was poor, his father was barely making enough money to feed the family, with his work as a butcher. And therefore, everything he could get his precious son for his birthday was a doll representing a Viscet. Still, it was no ordinary doll, but one made out of finest porcellain, real fur and feathers and hand-painted. Oh, Ernesto loved his doll more than anything, even though it was not exactly what he wished for - but he knew, that it was all he would get. He loved his doll so much, that he carried it everywhere with him, even during the festives of carneval, where he stood and watched in awe the performers in their amazing customes. He was alone, had he lost his parents somewhere in the crowd.
Suddenly an old woman approached him, wearing a mask representing a witch. "I know what you want, boy" she spoke "and I can give it to you." Ernesto knew that talking to strangers was a taboo, but being only a child, his curiosity won over his parents' warnings. The old woman offered him a Viscet, a real Viscet. And all he had to do, was to bury his doll together with some herbs and bones the woman gave him. And say a spell. At midnight and full moon, under a willow tree.
Every older person would've laughed, not thinking something like this would truly work, but Ernesto was a child with a great imagination. And so he did exactly what the witch told him. During full moon, he sneaked out of their home, seeking out a willow tree, burying his doll. And then, as the witch had told him, the stayed away from it until the next full moon, midnight again. Had the last month's night been beautiful and clear, this time around there was a great thunderstorm. And when the boy reached the tree, frightened and soaked, a big figure god lit by lightning. Growling and hissing, the Viscet approached him but Ernesto knew right away that he was his - what the witch had promised him, did actually come true. "Raffaele." He whispered.
Raffaele. The Viscet fliched his ears, lowering his head, allowing the child to pet him. The spell had brought life to the doll and the huge animal pledged loyality to his tiny master. Together they enjoyed frightening others, laughing about people they did not like getting hurt. He would protect the kid and the kid would feed him in return. Even when Ernesto became older, the Viscet and the human were still inseperable. Until Ernesto disappeared, on his eightteenth birthday. An old woman approached him, talked to him and suddenly he was gone. And Raffaele was all on his own. He got used to it quite easily, but even now, almost 500 years later, he is still on search for his former master, convinced, that he will get him back some day. Being a doll with no actual beating heart, he is immortal, almost indestructible, and therefore still alive in the 21st century. He travels around the world selling goods and making contracts. He is someone that you can ask anything of - whatever you are looking for, he will get for you. In return for money or something very valuable, or if you cannot pay, in return for a piece or the whole of your soul.
